The city of Tangier in Northern Morocco is considered as the gateway to the Mediterranean. This city of about 700,000 people is the capital of the Tangier-Tetouan region. The city of Tangier was a witness to many colorful historical events and a site of many cultures due to it's location. Today, the city is now a booming economic and tourism area. Forbes Museum of Tangier

This museum was founded by the publisher Malcolm Forbes of the Forbes Magazine. It contained a huge collection of 115,000 statues of lead soldiers. This collection is displayed to portray the battles of Waterloo and Dien Bien Phu with matching lightings and sound effects. It is now a property of the government of Morocco and serves as a home for visiting diplomats and other notable foreign figures after Forbes' death in the year 1990.

Grand Socco

Literally means "the Great Square", it is a landmark located in the medina area of central Tangier. Adjacent to the Grand Socco is the Petit Socco. It was given the name Place du Grand 9 Avril 1947 by Mohammed V in 1947 in relation to the 1947 Moroccan Independence. The square features different array of commodities such as second-hand goods, fruits, and spices. This particularly colorful market is more active at night.

Tangier Grand Mosque

The Tangier Grand Mosque is a elaborate mosque found on the central Tangier area. The site wherein it was built was a historical Portuguese cathedral on a Roman temple which was devoted for Hercules. It dates back as early as the Moulay Ismail era then was refurnished in 1815. This landmark was where Mohamed V made a historic speech in the Mendoubia Gardens.

Colline du Charf

Colline du Charf is a small hill overlooking the City of Tangier on to the Mediterranean. It gives the a wonderful view of the Tangier skyline and the Mediterranean costline of Morocco. High-rise buildings are found in this hill which offers a better view on the city. Also located in this hill is the Syrian Mosque of Tangier.

Rue Es-Siaghine

Rue Es-Siaghine is a street in downtown Tangier. It was the main street of city during the time of Roman Empire rule. The street leads down into the Petit Socco in the medina area and the street today contains fancy cafes, bars, and some cool shops.

The rich history can be attributed to the city's modernization and an emerging tourism hub. Today, development is mostly focused near the Mediterranean coastline. When you're in Morocco, Tangier is definitely one of the cities you should not miss visiting.
